Hosted by historians Tony Lupo and Ryan Fairfield, this podcast shares firsthand accounts from veterans of a wide variety of wars. The Unconventional Soldier
For those fascinated by military operations outside of the conventional warfare spectrum, The Unconventional Soldier is a fascinating listen. This military podcast is led by two former British Army soldiers who draw upon their own experiences as part of a long-range Surveillance and Reconnaissance Patrols unit. The Jocko Podcast is a fantastic listen for anybody wanting to apply some military wisdom to their everyday life. Hosted by retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, this podcast discusses themes of history, leadership and personal discipline. Jocko dives into historical battles and carries out interviews with veterans to offer valuable lessons about life and leadership. We particularly love the variety of guests on this military podcast, with something for everyone across over 400 episodes.
The Fighter Pilot Podcast
Aviation is one of the most fascinating sides of the military - but also a part that can feel worlds away from most of our everyday lives. The Fighter Pilot Podcast brings the world of a fighter pilot into the every day, with a range of fascinating content spanning technical details of aircraft to personal stories from pilots and co-pilots. Host Vincent Aiello is full of charisma, resulting in a fantastic military podcast that is as entertaining as it is educational.
Hardcore History
If you want to learn more about a wide range of historical events and issues, look no further than Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History. While not exclusively a military podcast, this fantastic show frequently delves into significant military events and eras with huge depth. The attention to detail of the podcast’s research is clear to see as many episodes span several hours to provide a truly comprehensive look at some of the most famous conflicts.
SOFREP Radio
SOFREP Radio should be familiar to anybody who has read our military podcast recommendations before. This fantastic special forces-focused listen is still going strong, offering new and intriguing insights into current events and historical topics. SOFREP Radio has always aimed to provide ‘military grade content’ that is as informative and thorough as possible. However, there are plenty of first-hand insights from former operators which give this podcast an edge and offer a deeper understanding of the impact of special ops on global events.
General Talk
The last podcast featured in our 2024 picks is General Talk. This regular podcast comes from the Army Benevolent Fund and utilises a range of interviews to offer a unique insight into the military’s role in the modern world. Each episode provides a different perspective on the British Army past and present, all to highlight the work the British Army’s national charity does for personnel, veterans and their families.
